The Course of Human Emancipation and the Evolution of Social Forms

摘要：The “project of modernity” started by enlightenment thought in the eighteenth century may be treated，in a specific sense，as a form of eman-cipation；however，the inherent historical determinism of capitalist rationalism and the parochial class nature of the bourgeoisie prescribe the historical limits of emancipation within this cultural field of vision. Globalization in the course of world history has not broken through these historical limits and confines because of the replacement of regional individuals by empirical and general individuals. The so-called “end of history，” based on the proposition that Western values and institutions are of universal significance and that society cannot evolve into any other more advanced social form other than the one founded on this universalism，is nothing but an expression of ideological class parochialism and a subjective proposition for real social history according to the inherent and cultural logic of capital. In view of the difficult living conditions of contemporary human beings and the increasingly serious alienation of human nature as a result of the unchecked spread of technical rationalism and in order to completely eliminate the law that “the first birthright of capital is equal exploitation of labor-power by all capitalists，” we must delve deeper into Marx’s thinking on human emancipation. In Marx’s multi-dimensional and multi-layered theoretical system，the theory of human emancipation is undoubtedly at the core，overriding all other theories. As a theoretical theme that accompanied Marx throughout his life，it also runs through his theory of social forms，for the course of human emancipation and the evolution of social forms have an inherent and logical identity. It is imperative for us to gain inspiration from Marx’s theory of human emancipation in order to transcend the historical limits of capitalism.
